Robert Alai Questions Edwin Sifuna’s Role as ODM SG, Claims Leadership Row Could Hurt William Ruto’s Campaign

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has questioned why Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is still serving as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), amid ongoing internal disputes within the party.

Alai claimed that Sifuna continues to enjoy the privileges of the office, including the use of an official vehicle provided by ODM, despite what he described as unresolved leadership tensions following the party’s Special Delegates Convention held at Jamhuri Grounds on March 27, 2026.

In a post on social media platform X on Sunday, March 29, Alai argued that the ODM leadership should have taken a firm decision on Sifuna’s position during the convention.

“The leadership of ODM will destroy President Ruto’s campaign. ODM Special NDC should have had a single agenda—removal of Sifuna as Secretary General,” Alai stated.

He further referenced a photo of Sifuna alongside Siaya Governor James Orengo and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi during a Linda Mwananchi rally, questioning the use of party resources.

Alai alleged that internal disagreements within ODM are weakening the party, warning that the ongoing divisions could have wider political consequences as the country moves closer to future elections.

His remarks come at a time when ODM held parallel political gatherings, with one faction led by party leader Oburu Odinga meeting at Jamhuri Grounds while another faction associated with Sifuna convened at Ufungamano House.

During the parallel meeting, Sifuna reportedly stated that he would not serve as Secretary General under the current leadership structure.
He also dismissed the authority of the new leadership, saying they should choose their own party officials.

The developments highlight deepening divisions within ODM, with rival factions emerging and openly disagreeing over the direction and leadership of the party.
