“Wantam” Chants Rock Kindiki Rally as DP Targets Governor Natembeya in Trans Nzoia

Chants filled the air during a tour by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Trans Nzoia County after he asked residents whether they would support the Broad-Based Government in sending home Governor George Natembeya.

While addressing locals, Kindiki posed a series of questions that quickly energized the crowd.
"Wangapi hapa wanasema Natembeya atembee akienda? Mnasema Natembeya ni Wantam ama Tutam? Wangapi wanasema yeye ni Wantam?" he asked.

The crowd responded with loud chants of “Wantam! Wantam! Wantam!”, signaling support for a one-term outcome for the governor. The chants dominated the gathering as residents echoed the Deputy President’s sentiments.

Kindiki accused Natembeya of failing to deliver on his campaign promises, urging voters to consider new leadership in the next general election.

He emphasized that development in the county would be faster if residents elected leaders aligned with President William Ruto.

According to the Deputy President, leaders affiliated with the United Opposition lack a clear development agenda and focus mainly on criticizing the government.

"Na mimi nataka kuwaomba sana, katika uchaguzi unaokuja, mchague viongozi ambao watasaidia Ruto kazi," he added.

The remarks highlight the growing political contest in Trans Nzoia as the 2027 elections draw closer. The “Wantam vs Tutam” debate continues to shape political discourse across the country, with leaders using it to rally support and define future electoral strategies.

As political temperatures rise, Trans Nzoia is emerging as a key battleground, with both the government and opposition seeking to consolidate support in the region.
