Robert Alai has questioned Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna after photos and a video showed him giving a brown envelope full of cash to a pastor during a church service in Nakuru.
Alai shared the clip online and asked, “Where did he get the money?” This question quickly attracted attention from many Kenyans.
In the video, Sifuna is seen standing in church and handing over the money to a pastor. At the same time, he warned people not to accept what he called “dirty money,” which many believe was aimed at funds linked to William Ruto’s government.
Many people online found this confusing. They said it looked like Sifuna was contradicting himself by giving out cash while speaking against dirty money.
Alai’s question also brought back claims that Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement is being funded by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Some ODM members believe the group has strong financial support that cannot be explained easily.
However, Sifuna has denied these claims many times. He says the movement is funded by supporters who believe in its message and choose to contribute.
Alai has also previously asked Sifuna to apologise to senior ODM leaders, including Oburu Odinga, before holding rallies in ODM strongholds like Kisumu.
Despite the criticism, Sifuna’s supporters say giving donations in church is normal in Kenyan politics. They believe his stand against corruption is still valid.
The issue has sparked a wider debate about transparency in political funding, with many Kenyans questioning where politicians get their money and how it is used.
