Govt Exposes Fake KCSE Payment Letter as Pressure Mounts Over Unpaid Examiners

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has dismissed as fake a viral letter claiming that KCSE examiners will only be paid starting July, warning the public against falling for misinformation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 23, Julius Migos Ogamba clarified that the document circulating online did not originate from the Ministry of Education and should be ignored.

“The document currently circulating is fake. I urge the public to treat it with the contempt it deserves,” he stated.

The forged letter, which bore official ministry branding and the CS’s name, alleged that delays in paying professionals involved in the 2025 national exams were due to a lack of budget allocation.

It further claimed that invigilators, supervisors, security officers, and examiners would only receive their payments in the next financial year beginning July 1, 2026.

According to the fake notice, the ministry was supposedly engaging the Treasury to secure funds and would process payments once resources were available.

This clarification comes amid growing concern over delayed payments to examiners who participated in marking the 2025 national exams.

Earlier, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) had also warned about another fraudulent notice falsely claiming that funds had already been released but delays were due to missing personnel data.

The controversy has sparked frustration among teachers, with the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) threatening industrial action, including a boycott of supervising and marking the 2026 national exams if the pending payments are not settled.
