President William Ruto has handed over an ultra-modern team bus to Shabana FC on April 12, 2026, in a major boost aimed at strengthening the FKF Premier League side’s operations and mobility.
The bus, valued at Sh27 million, was officially presented to the club to enhance its transport needs and support participation in national competitions.
In addition, Shabana FC received Sh20 million to assist with match venue arrangements during its transition period.
Speaking during the event, President Ruto said the government remains committed to strengthening sports development by improving facilities and supporting local teams to compete at higher levels.
He also presided over the launch of the upgrade and expansion of Gusii Stadium, a key sporting facility in the region. The project is aimed at boosting capacity and ensuring the stadium meets national and international standards.
The redevelopment is expected to improve infrastructure, increase seating capacity, and upgrade amenities for both players and fans, positioning Gusii Stadium as a major sports hub in the region.
Leaders and sports stakeholders welcomed the move, noting that the investment would uplift football in the Gusii region, which has a strong fan base and deep football culture.
On Sunday, President Ruto began a four-day tour of the Gusii region as part of efforts to strengthen support ahead of the 2027 elections.
He is expected to visit nearly all constituencies in Nyamira and Kisii counties to launch new projects, inspect ongoing developments, and address a series of political rallies.
The President will also inspect the ongoing construction of the Cancer Centre, Suneka Airstrip in Bonchari, and Kiabonyoru University in North Mugirango, as well as launch road projects across the region.
He is also expected to host community leaders at the Kisii State Lodge.
On Monday, Ruto will tour Ikonge in Nyamira to launch the construction of a modern market, amid growing public debate over the revised Narok–Kisumu SGR route that has excluded Ikonge from planned stations.
