DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa has proposed that the Linda Mwananchi movement join an existing political party as opposition leaders continue efforts to build a united team ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wamalwa made the proposal amid frustrations surrounding the registration of Linda Mwananchi as a political party through the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
The former Defence Cabinet Secretary has been pushing for closer cooperation between the United Opposition and the Linda Mwananchi movement, saying the two groups have a common political goal.
Wamalwa has previously said that the opposition formations are not competing against each other but are working towards creating a stronger political alliance capable of challenging President William Ruto's administration in the 2027 elections.
He has also expressed confidence that the Linda Mwananchi team will eventually join the broader opposition movement, arguing that bringing different political groups together would strengthen their chances at the ballot.
The proposed cooperation comes as political parties and movements intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with opposition leaders holding consultations on how to avoid splitting their support among several candidates.
Wamalwa has repeatedly called for opposition unity, maintaining that individual political ambitions should not stand in the way of creating a common platform.
The debate around Linda Mwananchi's political future has attracted significant attention since questions emerged over its registration process. The movement has been associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and has continued building its political presence.
Wamalwa has described Sifuna as an ally rather than a political rival, saying their cooperation could help create a stronger opposition coalition.
With the 2027 General Election approaching, the proposed arrangement could become an important part of the opposition's strategy as political leaders seek to consolidate their support and present a united challenge to the Kenya Kwanza administration.
