Gachagua Makes Major Nyeri Move as He Ramps Up 2027 Grassroots Campaign

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stepped up efforts to strengthen his political influence in Nyeri after hosting more than 3,000 grassroots mobilisers from across the county.

The meeting, held on Monday, August 17, brought together local leaders and mobilisers as Gachagua seeks to consolidate his support base in the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua said the engagement was important because residents in his home region had been questioning why he had been meeting political leaders from other counties while appearing to delay consultations with people from Nyeri.

He explained that his earlier meetings outside the region were deliberate, saying he wanted to listen to leaders from other parts of the country before returning home to share what he had learned.

The former Deputy President has recently increased his political activities across several parts of Kenya, while continuing to maintain a strong focus on Mount Kenya.

His latest meeting comes as political parties and leaders intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Nyeri gathering could therefore signal a renewed effort by Gachagua to strengthen his political network at home while preparing for a wider national campaign.

With political alliances expected to shift in the months ahead, Gachagua's ability to maintain strong grassroots support in Mount Kenya could play an important role in his political strategy.

The meeting also demonstrates the growing importance of grassroots mobilisation as politicians prepare for what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 General Election.
