Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has assured political leaders and Kenyans that the government will ensure political activities are conducted peacefully as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
Omollo said politicians will be free to travel across the country, campaign and sell their policies to voters as long as they operate within the law.
The PS stressed that the government does not intend to prevent political leaders from holding rallies or engaging with communities in different parts of the country.
His remarks come at a time when political activities are increasing ahead of the 2027 elections, with various parties and movements stepping up grassroots mobilisation.
Omollo said security agencies will work to maintain peace during political gatherings while ensuring that those who break the law are held accountable.
He has previously warned political leaders against interfering with security agencies when individuals are arrested over violence or disruption of public meetings.
The latest assurance follows growing concerns over political violence, particularly after clashes and disruptions reported during recent opposition activities in Homa Bay.
The government has therefore come under pressure to ensure that all political groups receive equal protection when holding public events.
Omollo's statement is intended to reassure politicians and members of the public that political competition can take place without threatening peace and security.
With the 2027 General Election approaching, the PS urged political actors and their supporters to respect the law and allow security agencies to perform their duties.
The government maintains that peaceful political participation will be essential to ensuring a stable election period.
