KNEC Issues Guidelines and Timeline for 2026 Grade 10 School-Based Assessment

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued guidelines and a timeline for the 2026 Grade 10 School-Based Assessment.

The assessment will support the monitoring of learners’ progress as they advance under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

KNEC said schools and teachers should follow the official assessment guidelines when preparing, administering and recording the required tasks.

The council is expected to provide details on the assessment areas, administration procedures, reporting requirements and timelines to ensure uniform implementation across schools.

Schools have been urged to familiarise themselves with the guidelines and prepare learners for the assessment activities within the stipulated period.

Teachers will also be required to maintain accurate records of learners’ performance and submit the results through the official channels provided by KNEC.

The assessment forms part of the broader transition to senior school under the Competency-Based Education system, which places emphasis on learners’ skills, competencies and continuous progress.

KNEC cautioned schools against relying on unofficial information and encouraged them to obtain updates from the council’s official communication platforms.

The council’s guidelines are expected to help schools plan effectively and ensure that the 2026 Grade 10 School-Based Assessment is conducted in a standardised and transparent manner.
