KRA Sets August 20 Deadline as Taxpayers Face Monthly Filing Reminder

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has reminded taxpayers to submit their monthly tax returns by Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Taxpayers with monthly tax obligations have been urged to complete their filings early through the iTax platform to avoid last-minute problems, penalties and interest.

The returns due this month include Value Added Tax (VAT), Excise Duty, Turnover Tax (TOT), Monthly Rental Income Tax and VAT on Digital Marketplace Supply.

VAT-registered businesses are required to submit their returns and make any necessary payments by the 20th day of the following month.

Businesses registered under the Turnover Tax system are also expected to meet the monthly filing deadline.

Landlords who are required to pay Residential Rental Income Tax must also submit their monthly returns. Those who did not receive rental income during the month may still be required to file a Nil return.

Digital businesses and service providers covered by VAT on Digital Marketplace Supply are also expected to comply with the August 20 deadline.

Taxpayers have been encouraged not to wait until the final day to file their returns, as delays could lead to difficulties when using the online system.

Those with taxes to pay have also been urged to make their payments on time to avoid additional penalties and interest.

With the deadline approaching, taxpayers are advised to check their tax obligations and complete the necessary filings before August 20.
