Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has welcomed two Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) who have left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joined his newly launched People's Party of Kenya (PPK).
The two leaders are Zack Macharia, the MCA for Kiuu Ward, popularly known as Githurai 45, in Ruiru Constituency, and Winnie Wambui, a Kiambu County MCA.
Nyoro announced their arrival on Thursday, August 20, just days after he made his own decision to leave UDA and join the new political party.
The Kiharu MP welcomed the two leaders to his political camp, describing their move as an important step for the new party as it prepares to expand its support base.
The defections are significant because they come at a time when political activity is increasing ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro officially announced his exit from UDA on August 18 and unveiled PPK as his new political vehicle. He said he had become dissatisfied with the way the government was running some of its programmes.
His decision to leave UDA came after months of speculation about his political future. Nyoro has now said he plans to work with different opposition leaders and political groups as they seek to develop a joint political and economic direction ahead of the next election.
The arrival of Macharia and Wambui gives Nyoro's party new political presence in Kiambu County.
The two are also among the first elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region to join Nyoro's new political formation after his departure from UDA.
Their move comes at a time when several leaders from the region are changing political parties and forming new alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
Nyoro's new party will now have to build a strong grassroots network if it hopes to compete effectively in the coming election.
The latest defections could also increase pressure on UDA as more politicians consider their political options ahead of 2027.
With Nyoro already attracting leaders to his new party, attention is now turning to whether more elected leaders will follow him in the coming months.
