Wajackoyah Defends Uhuru as Political Debate Intensifies Over His Role in 2027

Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta's right to remain involved in Kenyan politics, arguing that retirement from the presidency does not take away his rights as a citizen.

Wajackoyah said Uhuru has not announced any intention to seek the presidency again, but maintained that the former president is free to participate in political activities and interact with other political leaders.

He questioned why Uhuru should be criticised simply for engaging in the country's political affairs.

According to Wajackoyah, being a retired president does not mean Uhuru has lost his freedom to speak, meet other Kenyans or take part in political discussions.

The comments come amid growing attention on Uhuru's political activities as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wajackoyah argued that supporting political activities should not automatically be interpreted as an attempt to return to the presidency.

He maintained that Uhuru remains a Kenyan citizen with the same basic political rights as other citizens.

The remarks are likely to add to the ongoing debate over the role former presidents should play in active politics after leaving State House.

With political alliances taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections, Uhuru's position and influence continue to attract attention from both opposition figures and government allies.

Wajackoyah's latest comments therefore add another voice to the debate over whether retired leaders should remain active participants in Kenya's political affairs.
