Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Makadara, Nairobi, have recovered more than 120 smartphones and other electronic devices during an operation targeting suspected stolen property.
The intelligence-led operation was carried out after detectives received information about electronic devices and other items allegedly being kept by a person of interest.
During a raid at a residence in Makadara, officers recovered 120 smartphones, 10 laptops, two tablets and 18 gas cylinders. Detectives also found assorted mobile phone spare parts.
A person of interest was arrested during the operation and taken into custody as investigations continued.
The DCI said investigators are now working to establish the rightful owners of the recovered items and determine how they came into the possession of the person arrested.
Authorities have not released the identity of the person in custody or provided details about where the recovered property was allegedly stolen from.
The investigation will also seek to establish whether the items are connected to other reported cases of theft in Nairobi.
The recovery comes as police continue investigations into suspected theft involving mobile phones and other electronic devices in different parts of the country.
In a separate operation in Kisii on September 17, detectives recovered more than 500 mobile phones and motherboards from a phone repair shop and arrested two people of interest.
The Makadara investigation remains ongoing as detectives process the recovered property and work to establish its ownership and source.
