Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has told President William Ruto to stop focusing on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua said Uhuru should not be treated as Ruto’s political opponent in the upcoming election. Instead, he argued that the President should pay attention to the concerns and demands of millions of Kenyans.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Gachagua said the political contest should be about issues affecting ordinary citizens rather than former leaders.
He also questioned why Ruto continues to bring Uhuru into political discussions, arguing that the former president is no longer seeking the country’s top office.
Gachagua’s remarks come as political activity and public debate increase ahead of the 2027 General Election. The former deputy president has increasingly criticised the Ruto administration and spoken about the political direction of the country.
The latest comments also add to an ongoing exchange between Gachagua and Ruto over the role of former President Uhuru Kenyatta in Kenya’s political affairs.
Gachagua maintained that leaders should focus on the needs of Kenyans and the issues likely to shape the next election rather than concentrating on former political rivals.
