People’s Party of Kenya leader and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has opened up about his political fallout with President William Ruto, saying their relationship broke down long before he was removed as chairman of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee.
Nyoro said his differences with the Kenya Kwanza administration began around 2024 as political disagreements between him and the President grew.
He explained that he had already separated from the government politically but chose not to make a dramatic exit or openly fight the administration.
“I parted with the government a long time ago,” Nyoro said during a television interview on Friday, September 4.
According to Nyoro, the public only became aware of the fallout after he was removed from the powerful Budget and Appropriations Committee.
He said the removal came after disagreements that had been building for some time and marked the point when his relationship with the administration became difficult to repair.
Disagreement Over Mount Kenya Politics
Nyoro linked the beginning of his fallout with Ruto to efforts in 2024 to reorganise the government's political relationship with leaders from the Mount Kenya region.
At the centre of the disagreement was Kithure Kindiki, who was then serving as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.
Nyoro said Mount Kenya leaders were being encouraged to recognise Kindiki as the government's political link to the region.
He said he did not agree with the proposal and refused to support the plan.
The disagreement later contributed to growing political differences between Nyoro and the President.
Nyoro was eventually removed as chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, a position he had held in Parliament.
He has since become an outspoken critic of the Ruto administration and now leads the People’s Party of Kenya.
The former allies have taken increasingly different political positions as Kenya heads toward the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro has also indicated that he is willing to work with opposition leaders and has ruled out returning to Ruto's political camp.
