President William Ruto has hosted members of the Luo Council of Elders at the Homa Bay State Lodge as part of his ongoing visit to the region.
The meeting came during Ruto’s four-day tour of Luo Nyanza, which has taken him through several counties, including Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori. The tour combines government project inspections, development activities and meetings with local leaders.
Ruto’s engagement with the elders comes as political activities continue to increase ahead of the 2027 General Election. Luo Nyanza remains an important region in Kenya’s political landscape, with different political groups seeking to strengthen their support in the area.
The Homa Bay State Lodge was officially elevated from the former County Commissioner’s residence earlier this year. The facility is intended to provide accommodation for the President during official visits and serve as a venue for high-level government meetings.
During his Nyanza tour, Ruto has also been inspecting government projects and engaging residents and local leaders on development matters.
The President’s visit comes amid continued discussions about political cooperation between his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), as well as growing mobilisation by other political groups ahead of the 2027 polls.
The meeting with the Luo Council of Elders adds another engagement to Ruto’s programme in Homa Bay as he continues his tour of the region.
