Two police officers and two civilians have been taken to court over allegations of being part of a criminal network targeting motorists and members of the public along the Thika Superhighway and surrounding areas.
The four suspects appeared before the Makadara Law Courts after being arrested in Kasarani following investigations into several reported crimes.
The two officers were identified as Silas Onyango Okello and Oliver Juma Boge. Investigators said both officers had already been interdicted from duty. Okello had been attached to Kahawa Sukari Police Station, while Boge previously served at the Railways Police Station.
They were arraigned alongside Stephen Okello Ombewa and Job Sindiga Munibi, who police identified as their alleged accomplices.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly posed as active police officers while using a vehicle to target members of the public along the Thika Superhighway, Kasarani, Kahawa and Githurai areas.
Police said the group was intercepted after allegedly obtaining KSh15,000 from a member of the public.
Investigators are also examining possible links between the suspects and several reported robbery incidents in parts of Nairobi and Central Kenya.
The investigation follows reports of a group targeting people who had withdrawn money from banks. In one recent incident, a man was reportedly followed from a bank before money was stolen from his vehicle at a petrol station in Kahawa Sukari.
Police are continuing investigations to establish the full extent of the alleged network and determine whether the suspects can be linked to other reported crimes.
The suspects will face the legal process as investigators present evidence concerning the allegations against them.
