Motorists in Nairobi have been warned to expect major traffic disruptions on Sunday, September 27, 2026, as a cycling race takes place across several parts of the city.
The Southern Bypass, part of Ngong Road at the Lenana Interchange, and the Uhuru Gardens-Carnivore stretch will be temporarily closed to vehicles.
According to the organisers, the road closures will begin at midnight on Sunday and continue until 2pm, covering a period of about 14 hours.
The event, known as the Jubilee Live Free Race 2026, will start and finish at Uhuru Gardens.
The main cycling race will cover 77.8 kilometres over two loops. The Black Mamba and para-cycling races will cover about 39 kilometres in one loop.
A separate 20-kilometre Family Fun Ride will also be held for participants under the age of 14, with the route turning off at the NHC Southern Bypass.
The event will bring together competitive cyclists, teams, para-cyclists, families and children through different race categories.
Motorists using the affected roads have been advised to plan their journeys early and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
The organisers said the restrictions are necessary to allow cyclists to safely use the designated routes throughout the event.
Drivers heading through the Southern Bypass, Ngong Road and the Uhuru Gardens area on Sunday should therefore expect changes to normal traffic movement and allow extra time for their journeys.
