The United States has said it will not support any particular presidential candidate or political party in Kenya’s 2027 General Election.
Henry Wooster, who has been nominated by US President Donald Trump to serve as the next US Ambassador to Kenya, made the remarks while appearing before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Wooster said Washington’s main concern ahead of the August 2027 election would be stability rather than which candidate wins.
He said the United States would not take sides between competing political groups and would instead focus on seeing Kenya hold a peaceful election.
Wooster also indicated that Washington would closely follow political developments in Kenya as the country prepares for the polls.
His remarks come as Kenyan political parties and leaders intensify preparations for the 2027 election, with several political camps already building alliances and seeking support.
Kenyan politicians have also been engaging citizens living abroad as part of their political activities ahead of the election.
Wooster was nominated by Trump in June 2026 to replace former US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, who left the position in 2024.
If confirmed by the US Senate, Wooster said he would also seek to strengthen diplomatic and military cooperation between Kenya and the United States.
The ambassador nominee's comments provide an indication of how Washington intends to approach Kenya's next election, with stability and peaceful political competition identified as key areas of interest.
