The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has dismissed fake recruitment notices circulating online, warning job seekers that no military recruitment exercise is currently underway.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 19, 2026, the military urged Kenyans to disregard advertisements claiming that applications for the 2026/2027 recruitment exercise were open.
The warning follows the circulation of two documents designed to resemble official Kenya Gazette and Ministry of Defence notices. The documents purported to invite applications for various military positions, including officer cadets, combatants, tradesmen and women, and information technology specialists.
KDF said the advertisements were fraudulent and cautioned the public against relying on recruitment information shared through unofficial channels.
Fake Notices Target Job Seekers
The fraudulent documents claimed that applications would run from October 16 to November 27, 2026.
They also directed prospective applicants to submit sensitive personal information, including copies of national identity cards and academic certificates, through an unauthorised online portal.
A review of the notices identified inconsistencies, including suspicious text and purported official approval details that raised questions about their authenticity.
The Ministry of Defence warned that such advertisements could be attempts to obtain personal information or defraud unsuspecting job seekers.
KDF Explains Where to Find Genuine Recruitment Notices
The military reiterated that legitimate recruitment announcements are published through recognised channels, including mainstream media, the official Ministry of Defence website and verified KDF social media accounts.
Kenyans interested in joining the military were urged to verify any recruitment announcement before acting on it.
The ministry also cautioned the public against notices that direct applicants to unofficial websites or request payments in exchange for employment opportunities.
KDF recruitment is free, and applicants should not pay individuals claiming they can secure military jobs or influence the selection process.
Previous Recruitment Exercise Took Place in 2025
The latest warning follows the military's nationwide recruitment exercise conducted between October 13 and October 25, 2025.
During that exercise, candidates underwent screening across the country's 47 counties before successful recruits proceeded to basic military training in Eldoret.
The military has repeatedly warned about fraudulent recruitment advertisements targeting Kenyans seeking employment.
Kenyans Urged to Remain Vigilant
The latest clarification highlights the risks posed by fake job advertisements, particularly those that imitate official government documents.
Job seekers are advised not to submit personal documents through unverified portals or send money to individuals promising military employment.
KDF says the public should rely on official announcements and disregard claims that a new recruitment exercise is underway until a genuine notice is released.
