Four police officers stationed at Maai Mahiu Police Station have been arrested following the mysterious death of their colleague, who was fatally shot during a botched robbery response operation.
The arrests were confirmed by Isaac Kiama, a senior officer with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Naivasha, two days after the shooting incident.
According to police reports, the officers had been dispatched to the Msikiti area, approximately one kilometre from their station, after receiving reports of a suspicious lorry being offloaded. Upon arrival, they found about ten men unloading goods from the truck.
When the officers ordered the men to stop, the suspects scattered in different directions, prompting a brief pursuit. During the commotion, gunfire erupted, and a police corporal was hit in the chest, dying instantly at the scene.
However, none of the officers admitted to discharging their weapons, raising suspicion about the actual circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Senior investigators later linked the four officers to a possible cover-up attempt, leading to their arrest. Their service weapons — including Jericho pistols and Ceska handguns — were seized for ballistic analysis to determine which firearm fired the fatal shot.
Meanwhile, the lorry involved in the incident was impounded for further inspection, while the deceased officer’s body was moved to Umme Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination.
The four officers were expected to be arraigned in court on Friday, even as detectives continued to piece together what transpired that night.
The incident was recorded at Maai Mahiu Police Station under OB No. 04/29/10/2025.
This comes just days after a separate case in Thika, where 72 suspects were arrested in connection with a break-in at the Maguguni Patrol Base, where two rifles and over 170 rounds of ammunition were stolen.
