The Jubilee Party has officially appointed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its Deputy Party Leader and endorsed him as its presidential flag bearer for the 2027 General Election.

The announcement was made following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, October 30, and chaired virtually by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni confirmed that Matiang’i had formally submitted his presidential bid, which received unanimous approval from the NEC.

“We have received and formally accepted Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he will carry our flag in the 2027 elections,” said Kioni.
“We have also appointed Dr. Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader moving forward.”

The endorsement cements Matiang’i’s position as Jubilee’s top choice to lead the party’s resurgence ahead of the next polls.

The move comes months after Kioni first hinted that Jubilee would rally behind the former powerful minister, citing his leadership experience and reform track record.

During the meeting, the party also discussed strategies for revamping its grassroots operations, expanding membership, and reopening regional branches to strengthen its national presence.

Several key leadership vacancies were also filled, including the appointment of Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama as National Assembly Whip and Senator James Lomenen as Senate Whip.
