Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was among a group of 12 legal advocates who appeared at Milimani Law Courts today to represent Nuru Okanga, who is facing criminal charges described by his legal team as “frivolous” and an infringement on his rights as a Kenyan citizen.

The legal team included prominent advocates such as Abner Mango, Noordean Khagai, Shadrack Wambui, Kennedy Echesa, Wanjira Maina, Connex Mwaro, Stephen Oyugi, Philip Maiyo, Pius Oyoo, Japheth Kang’ethe, and Jacob Oruko Were.

After the court session, MP Owino said the charges reflected a broader pattern in which ordinary citizens face undue pressure from systems that allegedly attempt to suppress dissent through misinformation or politically motivated actions.

“Today, we were at Milimani Court representing Nuru Okanga. He has been subjected to charges that are not only frivolous but clearly violate his rights as a citizen,” MP Owino wrote on X. “This is part of a wider narrative where the marginalized and ordinary individuals are confronted by overreaching systems seeking to silence them.”

The MP emphasized that the accused’s rights must be respected and that the justice system should not be misused to intimidate or undermine citizens.
