Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has criticized Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka over his visit to the late Raila Odinga’s grave in Bondo, accusing him of insincerity and political opportunism.

In a statement shared on X, Cherargei questioned Kalonzo’s decision to mourn the ODM leader publicly, claiming he betrayed Raila during the 2007 general elections.

The senator said Kalonzo’s recent gestures toward the Odinga family were nothing more than political showmanship aimed at courting sympathy from Raila’s supporters.

“Kalonzo should stop pontificating himself in the death of Baba Raila Odinga yet he didn’t stand with him when it mattered in 2007. He sabotaged and betrayed Raila by running against him and later joined President Kibaki through a post-election coalition after the shambolic elections,' Cherargei wrote.

Cherargei, a close ally of President William Ruto, went on to warn the Luo community against backing Kalonzo in the 2027 elections. He described the former vice president as a calculative opportunist who cannot be trusted to carry on Raila’s political legacy.

“The Luo Nation must shun him like a plague,” he added, accusing Kalonzo of exploiting Raila’s death for political gain.

Kalonzo’s visit to Bondo on Thursday was seen as a symbolic act of respect to a man he worked closely with in two presidential campaigns.
