Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has publicly declared his support for Leo wa Muthende in the upcoming Mbeere North parliamentary by-election, stressing the need for leaders focused on development and community welfare.
He spoke on Monday night during an interview on Citizen TV, where he outlined his reasons for actively participating in the campaign.
Ruku, the immediate former MP for Mbeere North, noted that Kenyan law permits cabinet secretaries and County Executive Committee members to engage in political activities.
“The law allows CS and CECs to involve themselves in politics,” he said during the broadcast.
In the interview, Ruku emphasized that Leo wa Muthende has earned strong backing from residents who are familiar with local priorities.
He cautioned voters against candidates who might exploit the constituency or offer empty promises.
“We don’t want empty wards; we don’t want people who are coming to abuse others within the region,” he said.
Mbeere North has been preparing for this by-election following the vacancy left in the National Assembly.
The constituency, with roughly 150,000 registered voters, has seen intensified political activity, with local development, governance, and representation at the forefront of campaign discussions.
Ruku’s engagement has attracted attention because of his dual role as a sitting cabinet secretary and former MP.
Residents have been attending rallies and public forums to interact with candidates, while civic groups urge voters to assess aspirants based on track records and concrete development plans rather than high-profile endorsements alone.
