Mourning gatherings are underway in Nairobi following the death of celebrated gospel musician Betty Bayo, whose family has commenced preparations for her final send-off.
According to a statement released by the family spokesperson and burial committee representative, Shiru wa GP, arrangements are ongoing to move Bayo’s body from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital Mortuary on Tuesday morning.
The official burial date and venue will be announced once plans are finalized.
“Family and friends are meeting at her Eden Ville home and Bluesprings Hotel along Thika Road for condolence signing, mourning, and prayers,” Shiru stated on Facebook, thanking the public for their support and prayers during the difficult time.
Betty Bayo, who rose to fame in Kenya’s gospel music scene for her inspirational songs, passed away at KNH on Monday while receiving treatment.
Her passing has triggered widespread tributes from fans and fellow artists, many recalling her contribution to uplifting gospel music in Kenya over the past decade.
Kenya’s gospel industry has in recent years lost several influential voices, and Bayo’s death adds to a growing list of celebrated musicians who shaped the country’s spiritual sound.
Her songs, often centered on hope and faith, continue to receive airplay on major radio and television stations.
The family’s burial committee said updates on the funeral service and burial venue will be shared with the public once confirmed.
Meanwhile, Kenyans have been encouraged to join prayer meetings and offer their condolences to the bereaved family as they prepare to lay the singer to rest.
