The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has declared that preparations for Thursday’s Kasipul Constituency by-election are complete, with security deployments and logistical arrangements finalised across the constituency.
The exercise is scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m., covering all 22 electoral areas in the region.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon made the announcement on Monday after touring key installations and holding briefings with security and election officials in Rachuonyo South. The by-election follows a vacancy in the Kasipul Member of National Assembly seat and will determine who fills the position for the remainder of the parliamentary term.
Ethekon held a security briefing with the County Security team at Kosele town, where he commended officers for maintaining calm throughout the campaign period.
He urged continued coordination among agencies to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting process, noting that the Commission relies heavily on security personnel to manage crowd control, protect materials, and secure polling stations.
The IEBC chair also inspected preparations at Agoro Sare High School, the designated constituency tallying centre.
He met polling officials who have been trained by the Commission’s election management experts and reminded them of the importance of diligence and neutrality during the vote.
Earlier, Ethekon joined Returning Officer Rebecca Abwaku in opening ballot paper pallets before political party agents, accredited observers, and members of the media.
The verification exercise included checking serial numbers for each polling station and confirming the accuracy of candidate listings on the ballot paper.
According to the Commission, all stakeholders verified the integrity of the materials.
The dispatch of polling officials, ballot papers, and security officers to various stations began shortly after the verification exercise.
IEBC said the teams would immediately begin setting up polling centres in readiness for the opening of voting at dawn.
Ethekon reiterated that the Commission remains committed to delivering a credible and transparent election.
He said IEBC will continue engaging with security agencies and observers throughout the process to uphold public confidence in the outcome.
The Kasipul by-election is among several constituency-level contests being conducted this year as part of Kenya’s ongoing efforts to fill vacant seats through constitutionally mandated processes.
