Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has announced plans to travel to Uganda next month to campaign for President Yoweri Museveni

In a statement posted on X, Kaluma said he will be in Uganda from December 1 to 20, 2025, to support the veteran leader, whom he described as “the only African leader who truly stands for the sovereignty of African States and respect for African culture.”

Kaluma’s declaration has stirred discussion in Kenya over the role of elected leaders in foreign political activities.

Although Kenya and Uganda maintain close ties through trade and regional cooperation, it is rare for a sitting Kenyan MP to publicly take part in a neighboring country’s political campaign.

Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986, is expected to seek reelection in the 2026 general elections

His long tenure has often been a point of political debate across the region, with some leaders praising his stability record while others criticize the lack of leadership transition.

Kaluma did not specify whether his planned trip has received clearance from the Kenyan Parliament or relevant diplomatic channels.

His statement, however, praised Museveni for what he termed strong defense of African identity and sovereignty.

“The only African leader who truly stands for the sovereignty of African States and respect for the African culture,” Kaluma wrote, reaffirming his admiration for Museveni’s leadership style.
