Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sent a condolence message to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family following the death of Beryl Achieng.

The message, shared on X, expressed sympathy to Senator Oburu Oginga, Dr Wenwa Akinyi, Hon Ruth Odinga, and the wider family.

The death comes barely six weeks after the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, intensifying the family’s period of mourning.

Murkomen described Beryl as a dedicated professional who made significant contributions in Kenya and abroad through various public service roles.

Although he did not give details about the circumstances of her death, the CS said her leadership style and counsel had left a lasting impact on those she worked with.

He noted that the loss had shaken the family at a time when it was still grieving the death of Raila, who was widely regarded as a major figure in Kenya’s political history.

The Jaramogi family has long been influential in the country’s political landscape, with several members occupying public office over the decades.

Beryl’s death marks another difficult moment for a family that has played a prominent role in national affairs, including political reforms and governance debates.

Her contribution to public service added to the family’s legacy beyond politics, touching administrative and development sectors.

In his message, Murkomen emphasised that Beryl’s “quiet leadership and wise counsel” would be missed by colleagues and those who interacted with her professionally.

He asked Kenyans to keep the family in their thoughts during what he described as an extremely challenging period.

The CS also prayed for comfort and strength for the Odinga family as they navigate the fresh bereavement.
