Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi has formally resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, effective November 7, 2025.

In a letter addressed to the party leadership, Havi requested that the Registrar of Political Parties be notified to remove his name from the UDA membership list.

The resignation letter, dated November 7, 2025, cites Section 14 of the Political Parties Act, Cap 7D of the Laws of Kenya, which governs procedures for voluntary resignation from political parties.

Havi joined UDA in 2021 and used the party’s ticket to vie for the Westlands parliamentary seat.

In recent months, Havi has been an outspoken critic of President William Ruto, diverging from the party line.

He has publicly declared his support for presidential hopeful David Maraga, signaling a significant shift in his political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

Havi, a seasoned lawyer and former LSK president, has been an active figure in both legal and political circles.

His resignation comes amid a period of shifting political allegiances, with several high-profile figures reevaluating their party affiliations as the next general election approaches.

While the letter was formal and concise, Havi did not provide detailed reasons for leaving UDA or indicate if he intends to join another political party beyond his declared support for Maraga.

His departure is expected to have implications for UDA’s internal dynamics and for Havi’s personal political trajectory.

The Registrar of Political Parties will now process Havi’s removal from UDA’s membership register, formally completing the resignation.
