Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been officially declared the winner of the country’s general election after securing an overwhelming 97.66 percent of the total votes cast.
According to results released by the Tanzanian Electoral Commission on Saturday, November 1, President Suluhu garnered 31.9 million votes, cementing her victory in what has been described as one of the most dominant wins in the nation’s political history.
Suluhu, who ran on the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party ticket, was seeking her first full term in office after ascending to the presidency in 2021 following the death of former President John Pombe Magufuli.
Her resounding win reaffirms CCM’s long-standing dominance in Tanzanian politics and marks a significant endorsement of her leadership style, which has been characterized by diplomatic engagement and efforts to strengthen regional relations.
President Suluhu is expected to be sworn in for a new term in the coming days as congratulatory messages continue to pour in from across the region and beyond.
