The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially released details for the upcoming by-elections set to take place on November 27, 2025, including the full list of nominated candidates, polling stations, and tallying centres.
In a Gazette Notice published on Friday, October 31, the electoral agency also declared that there will be no voting in Mitkei and Tembelio wards, where candidates were unopposed. The commission confirmed that the nominated individuals in those wards will automatically assume office, in line with electoral regulations.
According to IEBC, the publication aims to enhance transparency and ensure voters and stakeholders are well informed ahead of polling day.
“The Commission has officially published the requisite Gazette Notices in preparation for the upcoming By-Elections scheduled for November 27, 2025,” IEBC stated.
“These notices provide critical details including the list of nominated candidates, declaration of no contest in Mitkei and Tembelio Wards, designated polling stations, and tallying centres,” the statement added.
The commission also reminded political parties and candidates to uphold the Electoral Code of Conduct, urging for peaceful and transparent campaigns.
UDA Bags Two Seats Unopposed
The latest announcement confirmed that United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates were the only ones cleared to contest in the Mitkei and Tembelio wards — effectively winning the seats unopposed.
Earlier, IEBC had dismissed a fake gazette notice circulating on social media on October 24, which falsely claimed the Commission had already declared the UDA candidates as winners. The electoral body clarified that no official declaration had been made prior to the legitimate notice.
The by-elections will cover several wards and constituencies across the country as the Commission seeks to fill vacant positions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
