President William Ruto has brushed off reports suggesting he is courting Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in a bid to form a political alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a media engagement at the Kitui State Lodge on Thursday evening, Ruto dismissed the speculation as “pure politics,” insisting he is currently focused on delivering development rather than engaging in premature succession talk.
“As far as relationships between political parties are concerned, those are just political conversations. I am not here to discuss politics,” the President said.
Ruto maintained that his priority remains service delivery for the people of Ukambani, adding that political discussions will only be entertained at the appropriate time.
“I am here to talk about development. Matters of politics will be discussed when the right time comes, and every leader will make their own independent choices,” he noted.
Claims of Political Realignment
The remarks follow reports that the President has been reaching out to Kalonzo and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa as part of a broader plan to widen his government’s base—a move some insiders claim is aimed at politically isolating Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Both Kalonzo and Wamalwa have, however, dismissed the claims, insisting they have no intention of abandoning the opposition.
Ruto Pledges to Finish Uhuru-Era Projects
During the same engagement, President Ruto pledged to complete the remaining projects initiated under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, noting that he is following the precedent set by his predecessor.
“President Kenyatta recently said it took him about two and a half years to complete most of the projects started by President Kibaki. I have done the same,” Ruto stated.
