Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has welcomed the leadership changes within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), describing the confirmation of Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga as a significant step for the party as it reorganizes after the death of Raila Odinga.
His remarks were issued on Friday through a statement posted on X.
Cherargei noted that ODM’s National Governing Council (NGC) had taken an important institutional step by formalizing new leadership positions, with Oburu now set to steer the party through its transition period.
The senator also congratulated other officials confirmed by the NGC, offering support for the broader restructuring process.
In his message, Cherargei said he was delivering his sentiments on behalf of residents of Nandi County.
He stated that he wished Oburu success as he assumes responsibility for guiding ODM’s national agenda and reinforcing organisational structures.
His comments were directed at what he termed the party’s need to stabilize and honour the legacy of the late Raila Odinga.
“On behalf of the great people of Nandi County, I congratulate my colleague Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga for his confirmation as Party Leader of ODM by the Party’s Governing Council yesterday,” Cherargei wrote in the post.
He added that his congratulations extended to all officials confirmed during the session, with the exception of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
The restructuring approved in Mombasa included several senior figures. Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga was cleared to serve as National Chairperson, while Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga and Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu were confirmed for key administrative roles.
ODM stated that the appointments will take full effect once the National Delegates Convention conducts its formal ratification.
The recent adjustments mark one of ODM’s most extensive realignments in years, following the passing of Raila Odinga, who had led the party since its formation in the early 2000s.
Cherargei concluded his message by expressing confidence that the new leadership would reinforce the party’s institutional framework and preserve Raila’s political footprint, which remains influential in national discourse.
