The Standard: Tortured in Kampala – Activists Reunite with Families

The Standard reports that Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo have been reunited with their families after spending 38 days in detention in Uganda.

According to the publication, the activists were taken into custody by the Ugandan military while attending a campaign rally for opposition leader and 2026 presidential hopeful Bobi Wine.

The newspaper highlights that during their detention, Njagi and Oyoo were reportedly subjected to harsh treatment and intense interrogation, with authorities probing their connections to political figures in Uganda.

Their release, which took place on Friday night, involved diplomatic interventions, with the publication noting that former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta played a key role in facilitating their return.

The Standard emphasizes the human dimension of the story, describing the emotional reunions with family members and the activists’ accounts of their ordeal.

The Nairobian: Mike Sonko Opens Up on Pain, Family and Healing

The Nairobian reports on a personal dispute between former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko and his daughter Saumu.

The publication notes that the disagreement arose after Sonko gave an interview in which he spoke publicly about his daughter’s mental health.

Following the interview, Saumu reportedly blocked her father on social media, citing concerns over the disclosure of private family matters.

The newspaper covers Sonko’s reflections on family, personal pain, and the challenges of maintaining relationships in the public eye.

It highlights the former governor’s efforts to reconcile with his daughter while acknowledging the sensitivity of discussing mental health issues openly.
