The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has dismissed a widely circulating advert claiming that the agency is recruiting 20,000 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms, terming it a complete fabrication.

In a statement released on Tuesday, November 18, TSC warned job seekers to ignore the fake notice, noting that scammers were taking advantage of ongoing frustrations among Junior Secondary School (JSS) intern teachers.

TSC: Only Trust Official Communication

According to the commission, any legitimate recruitment updates are posted exclusively on its official website and verified communication channels.

“Beware of fake news and misinformation. All available vacancies are always declared through our website,” TSC cautioned.

Viral Fake Advert Targets Desperate Job Seekers

The fake advert, which spread rapidly across social media platforms on Monday and Tuesday, claimed that 20,000 JSS teaching positions were available under permanent and pensionable terms. It even listed qualifications and included a deceptive disclaimer stating that no money was required for recruitment — a tactic typically used to make fraudulent adverts appear credible.

The source of the letter remains unknown.

Scam Emerges Amid Tension With JSS Intern Teachers

The circulation of the fake notice comes at a sensitive moment. JSS intern teachers have been pushing for permanent contracts, accusing the government and TSC of contradicting earlier agreements.

Just last week, President William Ruto announced that the government plans to hire 20,000 teachers before next year — an announcement that scammers appear to have exploited.

On Saturday, a section of intern teachers threatened to down their tools, protesting a new directive requiring them to serve for two years before confirmation, contrary to what they say their contracts stipulate.

The teachers insist that TSC is shifting its stance on recruitment timelines and violating its own guidelines, arguing that at least 20,000 interns should already have been absorbed permanently.
