United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Ndakwa has emerged victorious in the Malava Constituency by-election held on November 27, consolidating the party’s presence in Western Kenya.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) confirmed Ndakwa as MP-elect after he garnered 21,564 votes, narrowly defeating Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP‑K) candidate Seth Panyako, who received 20,210 votes.

The seat became vacant earlier this year following the death of former MP Moses Malulu Injendi. Malava, historically a competitive constituency, has been a key battleground for parties seeking influence in Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The by-election offered early insight into voter alignment and regional support for the Kenya Kwanza administration led by President William Ruto.

In response to the results, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi extended his congratulations to Ndakwa. He described the outcome as a reflection of growing voter confidence in the current administration, stating,

“Your victory reflects the growing confidence the people of Western continue to place in the Kenya Kwanza administration led by President William Samoei Ruto and offers an early glimpse into the political mood ahead of the 2027 elections.”

Mudavadi also highlighted the role of grassroots campaign efforts, noting the contribution of local supporters.

“My gratitude goes to everyone who contributed to this campaign in any capacity. Your dedication, energy and commitment were instrumental in driving this journey forward,” he said.

He added that the results underscored the importance of ordinary voters, observing, “The loudest voices don’t always carry the day, and real strength lies with the silent majority, who quietly shape the future at the ballot.”

IEBC officials confirmed that voting and counting proceeded smoothly, with no major disruptions reported.

Ndakwa’s victory ensures that UDA maintains its parliamentary numbers while providing a platform to address local development priorities in Malava.
