President William Ruto received a warm welcome in Ukambani on Wednesday as he toured Makueni County, meeting local leaders and inspecting ongoing housing projects.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo and Senator Daniel Maanzo, both from the Wiper party, personally guided the President through the developments, drawing attention for their cooperative engagement.
Lawyer Wahome Thuku, reflecting on the visit on Facebook, described the interaction as cordial and upbeat.
He highlighted the contrast between Ukambani and other counties, suggesting that similar gestures elsewhere might provoke stronger political reactions.
“Our cousins have no problem with William Ruto. A President Kalonzo Musyoka will happily invite former President William Ruto and his people into his government,” Thuku wrote.
The visit shows the significance of development initiatives in shaping local political perceptions.
Makueni has seen considerable investment in housing and infrastructure under local Wiper leadership, and residents expressed appreciation for the attention from the national government.
Housing projects toured included newly completed units as well as those still under construction, emphasizing progress in addressing housing shortages in the county.
Thuku’s commentary also touched on electoral strategy, cautioning that revealing such political openness publicly could impact voting decisions.
