Former Deputy President and Democratic Change Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has declared that his party plans to contest all major elective positions in the 2027 general election.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during a celebration of DCP’s recent victories in three MCA seats in Kariobangi North, Kisa East, and Narok Town.

Gachagua told supporters that DCP has quickly grown into a significant political force and is preparing to challenge the current government.

“We are the newest party in Kenya, the most serious, and the most fought by the government since they know we pose the greatest threat to William Ruto and are capable of sending him home,” he said, emphasizing the party’s rising influence.

The DCP leader outlined an ambitious plan to field candidates for the presidency, governorships, senatorial positions, and parliamentary seats across all 47 counties.

He highlighted the party’s focus on listening to voters and building grassroots support as central to its strategy.

“The truth is we are being fought because we are the most popular, truthful, and one that listens to the people of the Kenyan voter,” Gachagua added.

Kenya’s political environment has historically seen emerging parties struggle to compete against well-established ones. Analysts note that local victories, such as the recent MCA wins celebrated by Gachagua, are often the first step for new parties seeking national influence.

The DCP’s approach mirrors strategies used by past opposition movements that gradually expanded from local to national prominence.

Gachagua’s comments suggest that DCP is positioning itself as a comprehensive national alternative, challenging President William Ruto’s Jubilee-aligned administration.

While the party has not officially announced a presidential candidate, Gachagua confirmed its intention to participate fully in all electoral contests in 2027.

The announcement comes as political parties across Kenya are beginning early preparations for the next general election, with new and established parties vying for influence in both urban and rural constituencies.

DCP’s rising profile may intensify competition as the 2027 polls approach.
