Democratic Change Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has publicly invited Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to join his party, highlighting DCP’s openness to leaders from across the political spectrum.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during celebrations following the party’s victory in the Narok Town MCA by-election.
Gachagua, who served as Kenya’s Deputy President from 2022 to 2027, framed the invitation as an opportunity for leaders reportedly facing friction within their current parties.
He told supporters that Sifuna “is a good leader” and that if he were sidelined by ODM, DCP would welcome him.
Similarly, Owino, who has been critical of the government, was invited to “come home” to DCP, which Gachagua described as a party for “all Kenyan patriots.”
The remarks come against a backdrop of Nairobi’s shifting political landscape, where both Sifuna and Owino have emerged as vocal critics of the broad-based government.
Sifuna, a seasoned legislator, has served as Nairobi Senator since 2022, while Owino represents Embakasi East and is known for his outspoken parliamentary interventions.
Gachagua emphasized that DCP could support Sifuna in retaining his Senate seat should he choose to join the party.
In addition, Gachagua suggested that leaders uncomfortable with DCP could also consider Wiper, reflecting the broader coalition dynamics within Kenyan politics.
The gesture underscores ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties seek to expand their urban voter bases and strengthen positions in key constituencies.
The Narok Town by-election, which saw DCP secure a crucial MCA seat, was highlighted as a demonstration of the party’s growing grassroots influence.
