The Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, on Christmas Day toured Kwale County to assess the security situation amid heightened travel and economic activity during the festive season.
In a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Amin said the visit was aimed at reviewing operational preparedness and the effectiveness of security measures put in place to protect residents and visitors along the Coast.
The festive period traditionally records increased movement of people, particularly in tourism hotspots such as Diani.
The assessment began at Diani Police Station before the DCI director proceeded to several beaches within Diani, which were identified as key areas requiring enhanced security due to high tourist traffic.
Officers deployed in the area were evaluated on readiness, coordination, and service delivery.
Amin was received by Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno, Regional Criminal Investigations Officer Daniel Kandie, and other senior police officers.
The leadership team briefed him on the prevailing security situation and ongoing interventions to deter crime during the holidays.
During the visit, Amin also interacted with members of the public, listening to their concerns and urging cooperation with security agencies.
He emphasized that community engagement remains critical in preventing crime and strengthening public trust, especially during periods of increased social activity.
In addition, the DCI director inspected police holding cells and spoke with suspects held at the station.
The inspection, according to the DCI, was part of efforts to ensure adherence to the rule of law, respect for human rights, and professionalism in investigative and custodial processes.
The DCI said the assessment reflects the National Police Service’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring a peaceful festive season for Kenyans across the country.
