The Kenyan Parliament is mourning the death of Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, a nominated Member of Parliament representing the Amani National Congress (ANC), who passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 56.
His passing has prompted tributes from political leaders and colleagues across party lines.
Hamisi’s parliamentary tenure began following the 2022 general elections, when he was nominated under the ANC party list.
During his time in the National Assembly, he served on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities, contributing to policy discussions and legislative oversight.
In a statement on X, Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi expressed his condolences, saying, “It is with deep sorrow that I acknowledge the passing of Hon.
Denar Joseph Hamisi, Nominated Member of Parliament under our former ANC party.” He described Hamisi as a dedicated leader whose commitment to principle earned him respect among peers.
Mudavadi highlighted Hamisi’s qualities in a second statement, noting, “Hon. Denar was a diligent, loyal, and resolute leader who consistently stood by his principles. He was never swayed by political currents he did not believe in. His forthright character and exceptional ability to mobilize and inspire others earned him respect across the political divide.”
Born in 1969 in Kinango, Hamisi held a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and a Master’s in International Business Administration from the United States International University–Africa.
He later earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi. Prior to joining Parliament, Hamisi held senior positions in both the private and public sectors, building a career that combined professional expertise with civic engagement.
Speaker Moses Wetang’ula announced that a parliamentary team, led by Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya, will liaise with Hamisi’s family to coordinate his funeral arrangements.
The National Assembly has expressed its condolences to the late lawmaker’s relatives, friends, and colleagues, as the nation pauses to recognize his contributions to public service.
Hamisi’s death marks the loss of a respected legislator known for principled leadership and a commitment to the values of his former party, ANC, reflecting the ongoing importance of nominated MPs in representing diverse voices within Kenya’s political landscape.
