Former Westlands MP Fred Gumo has raised questions over inconsistencies surrounding the passengers involved in the fatal crash that claimed former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, urging authorities to conduct a detailed investigation.

Speaking during Jirongo’s funeral service in Kitale, Gumo highlighted gaps in the reported sequence of events that, he says, require clarification.

Gumo focused on the bus involved in the collision, reportedly traveling to Busia.

“Because the public is asking many questions. It does not add up,” he said, noting that a majority of passengers on a Busia-bound bus would likely be from the Luhya community.

He questioned why no passengers have come forward to describe their experience or confirm being on the bus that collided with another vehicle near Naivasha.

“Not a single person has said they were on the bus that collided,” Gumo said, emphasizing the lack of eyewitness accounts from the bus itself.

He also noted the improbability that no one on the bus witnessed the crash.

“When a bus collides, people will come out. Even those who needed to relieve themselves would do so at that time,” Gumo said, highlighting what he sees as a discrepancy between expected passenger behavior and reported accounts.

Gumo further questioned how the incident went unreported despite the bus starting from Nairobi and collecting passengers along the route.

“Wouldn’t someone on the bus have seen the accident? They say the passengers left on foot—where?” he asked, pressing for transparency.

The former legislator called for investigators to provide a clear and complete account of the events leading to Jirongo’s death.

“What we just want is investigations to be conducted,” he said, stressing that clarity is necessary for public trust.

Jirongo’s death has drawn national attention, with citizens seeking answers about the circumstances of the crash.

Gumo’s remarks come amid growing scrutiny of road safety protocols and the need for timely and transparent investigations into high-profile accidents.

Authorities have yet to release a comprehensive report detailing the sequence of events or passenger information related to the fatal collision.
