Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Irungu Nyakera has reaffirmed his intentions to contest the city’s top political seat in 2027, emphasizing his allegiance to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) as the party seeks to expand its membership.
The statement follows DCP leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Wednesday invitation to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to consider joining the party.
Nyakera stressed that DCP’s growth has been anchored by the dedication and consistent work of its long-standing members.
“Anyone joining us does so to contribute to an already strong and growing organisation, not to rescue it,” he said, highlighting the party’s emphasis on loyalty and structured development.
The aspirant reiterated that he will pursue the Nairobi governorship with focus and discipline, underlining adherence to party protocols and democratic processes.
His statement positions him as a candidate grounded in DCP’s internal framework at a time when Nairobi politics is seeing active repositioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua’s outreach to Sifuna and Owino, both prominent figures in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), reflects the DCP’s strategy of attracting influential politicians from other parties to broaden its national footprint.
DCP has historically emphasized party cohesion and grassroots engagement, a model Nyakera pointed to as central to the organization’s continued influence.
He described the party’s leadership as comprising committed individuals who have maintained its vision with integrity while driving its policy agenda forward.
With political alliances shifting in Nairobi, Nyakera’s declaration underscores his commitment to DCP’s internal mechanisms while preparing for a potentially competitive contest in 2027.
His focus on party loyalty and disciplined campaigning may shape voter perceptions amid an increasingly dynamic political environment
