Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has fired a sharp warning at President William Ruto following the Head of State’s condolence message on the death of former
Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo. Kabando took to X to challenge the President, saying the tribute, while heartfelt, ignored serious accusations Jirongo had raised against him over the years.
President Ruto’s message described Jirongo as a bold and generous politician who left a mark on Kenya’s political scene. He praised the late MP’s entrepreneurial spirit and influence, sending condolences to his family and friends.
Kabando, however, reminded Ruto of Jirongo’s past allegations, including claims related to the 1992 Youth for KANU ’92 campaign and other high-profile incidents.
He said these issues were raised openly by Jirongo and should not be brushed aside, even in a condolence message.
The former MP acknowledged some of Ruto’s strengths, including loyalty, work ethic, and political skill, but warned that these qualities are meaningless if used to oppress or evade accountability.
Kabando urged the President to confront these unresolved issues, rather than allowing them to fade from public memory.
Cyrus Jirongo, a key figure in Kenya’s 1990s multi-party politics, was known for his outspoken criticism of leaders, including those he once supported.
His death has sparked tributes across the political divide, but Kabando’s message highlights lingering tensions and the unresolved controversies surrounding his life.
