Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has died following a road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway on Saturday morning, marking the sudden loss of a prominent political figure from Western Kenya.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, which has drawn condolences from political leaders and constituents alike.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka described Jirongo as a “bold and charismatic leader” whose contributions to national discourse were significant.

In a statement on X, Kalonzo extended his condolences to Jirongo’s family, friends, and the people of Kakamega County, saying, “Hon. Jirongo never shied away from standing out or pursuing his convictions with courage and clarity.”

Jirongo served multiple terms as Lugari MP and was known for his outspoken approach to politics.

His leadership in Western Kenya was characterized by a direct engagement with constituents and active participation in public debates, often challenging prevailing political norms.

His influence extended beyond his constituency, making him a recognizable figure in national political circles.

Kalonzo’s statement emphasized the need for strength and comfort for Jirongo’s family during this difficult period.

“May God grant his family strength and comfort, and may the soul of Hon. Cyrus Jirongo rest in eternal peace,” he said, speaking on behalf of himself, his family, and the Wiper Patriotic Front.

Political figures from various parties have since acknowledged Jirongo’s legacy, noting his contributions to public life and his distinct voice in shaping debates on governance and national issues.

His death comes at a time when Western Kenya continues to reflect on the role of its leaders in promoting regional representation and political accountability.
