Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has reignited debate over the death of former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Francis Ogolla, challenging official findings and urging Kenyans to demand transparency.
In a statement on X, Kalonzo asserted that Ogolla’s death was not accidental, describing it as deliberate and calling for a fearless search for the truth.
Gen Ogolla died in April 2024 when a Kenya Air Force Bell Huey helicopter crashed near Sindar, Elgeyo Marakwet County, claiming nine other senior military officers.
The Ministry of Defence later attributed the crash to an engine malfunction, citing a Board of Inquiry report released in April 2025.
However, Kalonzo rejected this explanation, arguing that mechanical failure alone does not account for the circumstances surrounding the crash.
On his social media platform, Kalonzo stated: “As a country we must face the hard questions. This region has lost too many great voices in ways that cannot be ignored. I have said it before. Gen Ogolla did not fall to an accident. He was taken out.”
He emphasized that Kenyans “owe it to our people to seek the truth and to speak it without fear” and highlighted the importance of following what he referred to as “The Raila Vision” in preserving the legacy of public service.
The remarks come amid ongoing concerns over accountability in Kenya’s security and governance institutions.
Kalonzo’s statement aligns with calls from other political leaders for independent oversight and parliamentary involvement in cases of national security interest.
