Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has called for clarity on the circumstances surrounding the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, who died in a road accident on Saturday morning.
In a statement shared on X, Amisi highlighted aspects of the crash narrative that he said remain unclear.
According to the MP, Jirongo left Karen at approximately 11.30 pm after spending time with long-time friends.
“A person leaves Karen at around 11.30 pm, bids goodbye to his drinking buddies of many years,” Amisi wrote, noting that the group had “seen him drink and drive safely to his home for many years.”
Amisi provided a detailed account of the journey, saying Jirongo navigated the Southern Bypass, Kikuyu, Limuru, and other towns without apparent incident.
He added that Jirongo encountered mist in Kinungi and reached Gilgil, which he reportedly perceived as resembling Westlands.
During the drive, Jirongo reportedly negotiated bumps, corners, and oncoming traffic smoothly.
The MP questioned how Jirongo only realized he was off his usual route upon reaching Naivasha.
“When he arrived in Naivasha, he suddenly realised this is not the route and he quickly needs to turn back after three sober hours of driving,” Amisi wrote, highlighting what he described as inconsistencies in the timeline.
Amisi also referenced the bus driver involved in the crash. According to the MP, the driver said he struck Jirongo’s vehicle to prevent an incident involving 65 passengers.
Amisi raised concerns about why other vehicles in the traffic jam were not affected.
“Both drivers seem to have agreed to square their difference without cropping in other cars on the said ‘jam’. Wonders will never cease,” he added.
Police have confirmed the crash and Jirongo’s death but have not released an official report.
Investigations into fatal road accidents in Kenya typically involve vehicle inspections, witness statements, and scene analysis before findings are published.
Cyrus Jirongo, who represented Lugari constituency in Western Kenya, was a former legislator and businessman.
His death occurs amid ongoing concerns over road safety on major highways, particularly during late-night travel.
