Ruto Graces Junet Mohamed Soccer Tournament in Migori

The Hon. Junet Mohamed Soccer Tournament 2025 concluded on Saturday with a strong turnout of local athletes and political leaders, highlighting community engagement and youth development in Suna East. 


President William Ruto attended the finals, alongside senior figures from the ODM party and county government officials.


Suna East MP Junet Mohamed thanked the dignitaries for supporting the tournament, noting the event as a platform to celebrate young sports talent. 


“I am grateful to President William Ruto, ODM Party Leader Dr. Oburu Odinga, Deputy Party Leader Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Governor Ochillo Ayacko, ODM Chair Gladys Wanga, and Cabinet Secretaries Hassan Joho, John Mbadi, Opiyo Wandayi, and Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya for joining us to honor our athletes,” Junet said. 


He reaffirmed his support for the Broad-Based Government and maintained his allegiance to Dr. Oburu Odinga.


The tournament concluded with Radienya team emerging as champions, praised for teamwork and consistent performance throughout the matches. 


President Ruto congratulated the team on social media, stating that their effort from kickoff to the final whistle was “outstanding.” He also acknowledged all participating teams for their commitment.


The tournament coincided with ongoing efforts to upgrade sports facilities in the county. 


Ruto highlighted the construction of a KSh850 million Migori Stadium, intended to provide a modern venue for tournaments and to foster talent development. 


Junet Mohamed confirmed that next year’s tournament will be hosted in the renovated stadium, signaling long-term plans to strengthen local sports programs.


The Junet Mohamed Tournament has grown into a key platform for youth engagement, offering local athletes a chance to develop their skills and gain recognition. 


The event also fosters community participation, with residents turning out in large numbers to support young players. 


Leaders emphasized that such initiatives contribute to social cohesion and the nurturing of talent at the grassroots level.
