Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi joined leaders and residents in Lumakhanda, Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, on Tuesday to attend the burial of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.

In a statement on X, Sudi described the late politician as a “notable figure” and extended condolences to his family and fellow mourners.

The funeral attracted a wide range of political figures, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetangula.

Their presence reflected Jirongo’s influence beyond his constituency and highlighted the cross-party respect he commanded over the years.

Sudi emphasized both the personal and professional bond he shared with Jirongo.

“We joined mourners at Lumakanda grounds for the burial of the late former Lugari MP Hon. Cyrus Jirongo. Tributes and reflections filled the occasion as we bid farewell to a notable figure. Rest in eternal peace, my good friend,” Sudi posted on social media.

Cyrus Jirongo first rose to prominence as Lugari MP, serving during a period that saw considerable political shifts in Western Kenya.

Known for his involvement in business ventures alongside his political career, he played a role in local development and influenced broader county politics.

His career reflected the intersection of entrepreneurship and legislative service that has characterized many leaders in Kenya’s multi-party era.

The burial ceremony underscored the enduring importance of political and personal networks in Kenyan politics. Leaders from different parties gathered to honour Jirongo, signalling the respect he earned across ideological lines.

For constituents and political peers alike, the event offered a moment to reflect on his contributions to public service and community initiatives.

Sudi’s tribute highlighted the significance of friendship and collaboration in Kenyan political life.

By acknowledging both Jirongo’s achievements and his personal character, Sudi reinforced the legacy of a politician who influenced Western Kenya’s political landscape and maintained strong relationships across party divisions
